Title: Mater Modality: Performance Duration: 15 minutes approximately Year: 2017
The Mater performance consists of placing my body inside a vessel in the fetal position that was adopted in the burials of the original Andean peoples. From within, my voice emerges with songs that allude to a line of matrix wisdom denied by some contemporary anthropologists who mention that matriarchy was a myth and question its existence.
The action has an ambivalent reading because it refers to a non-existent or disappeared matriarchy, in opposition to an existing and present rebirth of the power of the feminine as an element to heal the current world.
Mater alludes to the return to the mother earth, to the womb, to the burial of the bodies that, when placed inside the vessel in a fetal position, grant the sense of return to the mother earth, to death as the initiation of a new life. The work invites the public to reflect on matriarchy, to question historical ideological interests and to value the position of women in anthropology and contemporary culture.
